Hon’ble Supreme Court revises the deadline for applying to Covid-19
Ex-gratia, Dated:29.03.2022
The application for grant of ex-gratia to person deceased due to Covid-19 is received through www.tn.gov.in and considered by the District Level Death Ascertaining Committee. So far 1703 applications have been received, of which ex-gratia relief of Rs.50,000/- has been sanctioned to 1484 cases and 208 applications were rejected on the grounds of duplication, etc.
In the mean time, the Hon’ble Supreme court in I.A.No. 40111/2022 in M.A.No.1805/2021 in W.P.No.539/2021, dated:20.03.2022 have issued the following directions regarding receipt and processing of Covid-19 ex-gratia applications.
1. The claimants in case of Covid-19 death occurred prior to 20.03.2022, shall apply for ex-gratia amount within 60 days (before 18.05.2022).
2. For Covid-19 deaths, occurred on and after 20.03.2022 ex-gratia claims shall be made within 90 days of occurrence of death.
3. The application received shall be disposed by the competent authority within 30 days.
4. Those claimants who could not make application, in case of extreme hardship, can approach the District Revenue Officer for Grievance Redressal. The Committee headed by District Revenue Officer will to consider these claims on case to case basis on merits.
Hence, the District Collector, Dindigul has appealed to the kith and kin of the person deceased due to Covid-19 to apply for ex-gratia in time as stipulated by the Hon’ble Supreme Court.
