Basic Amenities – Electrification provided after 71 years of Independence at Sirumalai

Dindigul District Administration has taken steps to assess the basic civic amenities to those who are living in remote and inaccessible habitations and strives to fulfill their longfelt demands on priority basis.  During the visit of the Collector to Sirumalai and its habitations, in the year 2017 it was found that Thazhakadai, interior tribal habitation in Sirumalai Panchayat and Siruvattukadu, a tribal hamlet in Vadakadu Panchayat in Oddanchatram Taluk both located in interior hill areas are longing for electricity connection for several decades

THAZHAKADAI, A HABITATION OF SIRUMALAI PANCHAYAT:-

Nearly 200 households with a population of 600 including 25 Scheduled Tribe population are living in Thazhakadai village of Sirumalai Panchayat.  Huge cost involved in installing transformers, erecting EB line through the Reserve Forest and its location in interior forest area besides logistic challenges in laying cables made the demand for electricity service a distant dream for the people of Thazhakadai.  Besides, due to lack of electricity connection, drinking water supply could not be effected through OHT.

On the instructions of the District Collector, Dindigul,   TANGEDCO jointly inspected Thazhakadai habitation deprived of electricity and TANGEDCO officials prepared a detailed estimate for the extension of LT / Over Head Tank services to Thazhakadai habitation.  The proposals   was sent to the State Planning Commission seeking funds under State Balanced Growth Fund.  Accordingly, the State Planning Commission sanctioned a sum of Rs.1.12 crores under the State Balanced Growth Fund for the electrification of Thazhakadai   which will provide electricity supply, uninterrupted drinking water supply through OHT and will benefit more than 60 students studying in schools and 200 households residing in this habitation

SIRUVATTUKADU, A HAMLET OF VADAKADU PANCHAYAT:-

Siruvattukadu is a tribal habitation in Vadakadu Panchayat, Oddanchatram Taluk.  Nearly 60 households with 220 people are living in the village.  Due its location, in the middle of the forest land and the need for the erection of transformers and cables through Reserve Forest, their long felt demand for electricity could not be met.

On the instruction of the District Collector,   TANGEDCO officials inspected the habitation and  prepared a detailed estimate for the extension of electricity connection  o Siruvattukadu habitation.  The proposals  was sent to the State Planning Commission seeking funds under State Balanced Growth Fund.  Accordingly, the State Planning Commission sanctioned a sum of Rs.1.85 crores under the State Balanced Growth Fund for the electrification of Siruvattukadu  which will provide electricity supply, uninterrupted drinking water supply through OHT and will benefit more than 50 students studying in schools and 60 households of this habitation.

The electrification of above 2 tribal hamlets 71 years after independence is expected to usher in socio economic development of people living in hilly terrain on par with rest of the areas.
